What is
an I.S.A. Certified Arborist?
I'm glad you asked. First of all, to become an I.S.A. Certified Arborist, a candidate must qualify to take the test. Eligibility requires that the candidate have a minimum of 3 years experience in arboriculture. Acceptable experience will include those experiences where the practical use of knowledge involved in pruning, fertilization, installation and establishment, diagnosis and treatment of tree problems, cabling and bracing, climbing or other services directly relate to arboriculture. The eligibility requirement may also be satisfied with a two or four year degree in a related field and two year practical experience. An arborist is certified for 3 years. During that period, the certified arborist must accumulate 30 Continuing Education Units (CEU's). This helps to ensure that the arborist is keeping up with the latest research and techniques.Hiring an I.S.A. Certified Arborist is not a guarantee that the work will be performed according to I.S.A. or N.A.A. standards, but it does indicate that the arborist has a minimum level of knowledge. Always make sure that the firm you hire is reputable and has adequate liability insurance. Their insurance company should be happy to fax or mail you a current certificate of insurance. Otherwise, you may be responsible for any claims. The candidate will then take the test. There are 12 domains that make up the test, and all ten must receive a passing grade. The domains are weighted. |
